    • akpancakeI have a 1968 Open Road motorhome. I am going to dis-assemble it this winter (completely) and rebuild the entire thing from the ground up. It has sliding glass doors in the back ( original equipment) was wondering, should I keep it all original style? or should I build it into a toy hauler?
just wanting some suggestions, any input would be welcomed.

  • Dean I'm hoping folks are still active on this site. Disappointing that there is no real activity here anymore. Anyway, I'm looking into replacing the a/c unit on my 1982 28' Airstream MH. It has an old coleman. I'm thinking of getting a Carrier 15,000 btu low profile unit. As with most things Airstream, it seems to be a daunting task. I'm trying to figure out if I should go with a 13,500 or a 15,000 unit. There is one a/c and I summers in northern Calif get over 100 degrees. I think the 15,000 unit is what I want. I have replaced an a/c on a flat roofed trailer in the past, but worried what it would be like on the Airstream. Someone did dent the roof in back...can't see from the ground thank goodness. How do you position ladders as not to dent/scratch side/roof? Should I just have someone do it? Will I be happy with someone else's work? It also seems that suppiies of everything are low these days and no one has anything in stock. Do I trust buying on internet? Any one replaced their a/c lately? Thanks Dean.

    • Steven T WebsterI have 2 13500 units and would go bigger when replacing. They both don't really cool my coach in 90 degree weather. Glad you're posting here again. Welcome.

    • Steven T WebsterAlso I have seen people use painters ladders with the extensions/spreader on the end, screwed to a board with a carpet on the back of the board up against at least two rivet lines. I've also seen workers the the factory use big cushions to sit on the roof.

  • Dean Hi Steve, I'm looking for all the old forums that existed on the old site. There was a lot of good info in them. I've looked around and haven't found them. Dean
